Coming Next Week to MU…
Last week a mysterious bunny hopped onto the MU home page. Many of you suspected it was the sign of a new manga on the horizon… Well, you were right — and we can’t wait to tell you all about it! Manga University is proud to announce “StepMania: The Manga,” an all-new, original comic based on the wildly popular dance/rhythm game.
Made in consultation with the game’s creator, Chris Danford, and written by up-and-coming Japanese manga artist Uno Shino, “StepMania: The Manga” follows the exploits of a brash high-schooler named Yukino as she is thrown headfirst into the world of StepMania by her best friend and veteran dancer Momo, who works at the local arcade.
“StepMania: The Manga” is a fast-paced mixture of humor, adventure and lots of dancing that is a must-read for manga fans and gamers alike. There are even a few game-related tips sprinkled through the story to get readers more involved in the game and its massive community.
Two pages of “StepMania: The Manga” will be released free of charge every week on mangauniversity.com. Readers and fans are also invited to comment and offer feedback on the comic as it’s being made!

I’m excited about this. I’m sure you’re aware of the 10k Commotion comic made around 2003? It was a favorite of mine, and I’m hoping that this, too, can become another of my niche favorites.
All I ask is that you keep it as accurate to the real-deal as possible (without jeopardizing story of course) for us hardcore players as possible.

So, are the characters going to be only people made up for this, or are relevant people in the community going to be included? Another question I has was regarding whether or not many of the fandoms/memes within the community will be discussed.

Thanks so much for your comments both here and on the PNW and DDRFreak boards! Your support and that of the hardcore StepMania community really means a lot to us as we begin to put together the comic.
Our goal is to make sure the manga is accessible to everyone and to make the readers excited about dancing/rhythm games whether they are hardcore players or new to the game. We think getting the community involved is the best way to do this.

I genuinely can’t wait for this. As a massive fan of anime/manga and stepmania/ddr/itg, this is a really different and unexpected thing to bring to the table.
Wondering what kind of story arcs are going to crop up from this (in my head I see it being like Angelic Layer), as I can’t imagine it’s easy to come up with a story for this. I’m guessing the main people involved are fans of the game?
