  #23: Buddha's Tree House — January 23, 2013 The most popular tourist destination in Tokyo these days is the Skytree, a broadcasting and observation tower in the heart of the city's historic shitamachi district. The 634-meter structure is the largest tower in the world, and is visible at ground level from as far as 20 miles away.  The Manga University Daibutsu frequently visits the Tokyo Skytree, so we will be featuring additional photos this architectural wonder — including some views from the observation decks — in the months to come.

  #22: Bottoms Up, Buddha! — January 22, 2013 Following yesterday's kabuki performance at the National Theatre of Japan, the Manga University Daibutsu bellied up to the sake bar for a nightcap. Stacks of kazaridaru, or decorative sake kegs, like these are often seen outside Japanese shrines and other places of cultural importance.  Kampai (cheers)!

Today, we tackle both with a single image. This is a package of raisins coated in cinnamon-flavored kokuto (black sugar). Eat a couple of these bite-size treats, and you'll have a sugar buzz that lasts for hours!
