NOW PLAYING: New Year's Shishimai Marathon
The Manga University New Year's 2010 Shishimai Marathon featured a live, nonstop, round-the-clock performance of the ancient Japanese shishimai, or lion dance, by MU's own robotic shishi (costumed lion).
The shishi (costumed lion) performed its dance an estimated 1,080 times during the marathon — that's one dance every 30 seconds for 36 hours straight!
Shishimai are traditionally performed at temples and shrines during the New Year's holiday period. This performance took place in Manga University's tatami-floored conference room on our Tokyo campus.
